Brainstorming Workshop for IET-TFS student competition at Biotechnology Department, Garware College
Department of Biotechnology of MES Abasaheb Garware College has organized a guest lecture cum brain storming discussion activity for their students on 26-08-2013 at Assembly Hall on campus from 11.30 am till 1.30 pm.
Mr. Kaustubh Sakhare, Asst. Prof. at ENTC dept. of PICT, pune along with his dedicated team of volunteers guided this activity. During the brief introduction, he informed the concept behind the ‘Tech for Seva’ (TFS) conference which is going to be held next month in Pune.
TFS has organized ‘student competition of innovative ideas’ where students are supposed to submit their novel ideas on the prescribed themes which have social relevance. As the deadline to submit the ideas is 31st of August, we have organized this guest lecture with short notice due to cooperation from Mrs. Madhura Damle, Head of the dept and also from all other staff members.
Such a introductory lecture was necessary as the students are not inclined to think on social issues and apply their technical knowledge for solving social problems. After the background information about conference and the competition, students were asked to group according to their interest.
Total 100 students were divided into following seven groups
A) Health B) Education C) Livelihood D) Water E) Biodiversity F) Energy G) Waste
Each group was accompanied by a TFS volunteer and also the faculty member of the department. Within next 30 min each group asked to come up with a problem and its solution in given area. At the end of the brain storming session a group leader from each group came forward and share the discussion in front of all.
There was a positive feedback from majority of the students ranging from FY BSc to MSc II. Such a informal discussion help students to open up and speak their mind.
Following volunteers from PICT and Cummins college were present for the program along with local volunteers from Garware college.
